Lifetime and Sony Pictures Television will team up with filmmaker James Franco to remake the classic movie, Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? in honor of its 20th anniversary. The retelling of the cult classic from Sony Pictures Television will pay homage to the original film that continues to resonate in pop culture today. The made for TV movie originally aired in September 1996 starring Tori Spelling as Laurel Lewisohn, a college student who thinks she’s met the man of her dreams and Ivan Sergei as Billy Jones, her worst nightmare.
The current story is written by Franco, Amber Coney handles the script and the film will be directed by Melanie Aitkenhead. Franco along with Vince Jolivette, Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno will serve as executive producers.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Rabbit Bandini Productions, Mother, May, I Sleep with Danger? will air on Lifetime in 2016 and comes on the heels of Lifetime’s successful release of A Deadly Adoption starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig.
