I felt it was time to acknowledge the people behind the shows and characters we love, the creators. Without the imagination of these talented individuals, there wouldn’t be shows like Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Flash, Arrow, The 100, Supergirl, Once Upon a Time, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder or Supernatural.
So, without further adieu, here is my list:
Eric Kripke
Fans have been enthralled with the adventures of hunters Sam and Dean Winchester on Supernatural for 11 Seasons. And to think Supernatural began on the pitching table as a show about a reporter traveling the country writing about the unexplained.
Greg Berlanti
Berlanti is the man behind The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and the soon to air Legends of Tomorrow. If anyone knows how to transfer a superhero from the page to the television screen, it’s Berlanti. He takes what we know about beloved characters and gives them more heart and soul.
Jennie Urman
The woman behind Jane the Virgin. She gave us the beloved Villanueva family and put telenovelas on the map with the introduction of Rogelio de la Vega. Each episode of Jane the Virgin leaves viewers laughing, crying and wanting more.
Rachel Bloom
Most people may not remember, but there was a show in the 1990s called Cop Rock which attempted to incorporate drama with song. I watched that show and it failed miserably. It’s a new day and now we have the brilliant Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Viewers can watch it without getting the feeling that the songs are overwhelming the scene. They work as an equal balance to bring something magical.
Jason Rothenberg
Who would have thought a show about a post apocalyptic Earth and survival would have developed such a huge fan following? It’s the raw emotion of The 100 that has quickly turned it into one of the most talked about shows.
Shondra Rhimes
In the 1980s, the nighttime soap was in its heyday with shows like Dallas, Dynasty and Knots Landing. Rhimes has given viewers reason to be excited about the prime time drama with her TGIF lineup of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder. When once people were discussing Who Shot Jr? Now it’s Who Shot Annalise?
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz
And they lived happily ever after…Maybe, maybe not. That’s the fun of Once Upon A Time. Creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have taken everything we know about fairy tales and turned it on its ear. And for the fun of it, they threw in Disney characters and King Arthur too. Now that’s story writing at its best.
This group of talented individuals have set a high bar for television creators and the industry and fans have taken notice.
