The Flaming Lips Announce Box Set Commemorating 20th Anniversary of “Clouds Taste Metallic”

After being in the music business for more than 30 years, many bands are content to slow down just a little bit.

This is not true of the Flaming Lips.

Fresh off collaborating with Miley Cyrus on her experimental  Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, Wayne Coyne and the gang have announced the release of Heady Nuggs 20 Year After the Clouds Taste Metallic 1994-1997. This box set contains three discs consisting of their breakthrough seventh album, Clouds Taste Metallic, as well as rarities and live tracks recording from 1994-1997.

Clouds Taste Metallic is considered one of the best the band has to offer, earning rave reviews from music critics through the years. Compared to the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds by All-Music, this album was rarely heard played live by the band after the departure of guitarist Ronald Jones. It wasn’t until this last February that this album was played live in its entirety.

Heady Nuggs will be released in several mediums. The digital and CD versions will see the light of day on November 27th. This will be followed by a five LP Standard as well as a Deluxe vinyl version on December 18th. Fans can head to the official Flaming Lips website to purchase an exclusive numbered and colored vinyl version autographed by lead singer Wayne Coyne and packaged with three t-shirts and three posters originally sold during the Clouds-era. In addition, all pre-orders will receive downloadable rare tracks leading up to the release.

As if this weren’t enough Flaming Lips news, the band has recorded a special edition Christmas 7” single with Yoko Ono comprising of “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” and “Atlas Eets Christmas.” This will be available December 11th with a special edition white vinyl version available for preorder now from Chimera Music.
