Sleepy Hollow: Let’s Stop This Madness

hANnN4JSpoiler alert: This article contains information from the episode “This Red Lady From Caribee” which may not have aired yet in some regions.

Ichabod and Abbie in their roles as Witnesses have fought creatures of the Apocalypse who’ve been wrecking havoc on mankind, causing mayhem and death.

In the episode titled “This Red Lady From Caribee”, Pandora uses a different approach. She conjures a Soucouyant that turns into a swarm of insects and uses its deadly sting to cause its victims to experience extreme fear and then paranoia, leading them to commit murderous actions.  The challenge for Team Witnesses was how do they fight something that uses the mind as the instrument for the body to do its bidding?  This case hits closer to home when Abbie’s colleague, Agent Reynolds is infected.

It was great that Sleepy Hollow mentioned Abbie’s ancestor, Grace Dixon, as Ichabod and Abbie sought a way to defeat the Soucouyant. Her journal reveals that General George Washington suffered from the Soucouyant’s craziness but Grace was able to delay the madness with a tonic until Betsy Ross defeated the creature.  The use of Betsy Ross in the episode continues to feel like a plot device. She defeated the Soucouyant, how? Since this isn’t explained, why bring it up?

Jenny and Joe get the ingredients they need to recreate Grace’s tonic which delays Reynolds’ descend into madness. And with his trusted crossbow, Ichabod destroys the Soucouyant.

Although “This Red Lady of Caribee” wasn’t Sleepy Hollow’s strongest episode, it did have some great moments and again the special effects were stellar.

Sleepy Hollow airs Thursdays at 9/8c on FOX.
