Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Listen To Dr. Phil, Rebecca

download (1)The title of the show is Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The show took the word ‘crazy’ literally in the episode titled “I’m So Happy Josh Is Happy”. This article contains spoilers so if you haven’t seen the episode, please do not continue reading.

Josh and Valencia moving in together sent Rebecca spiraling out of control. Viewers wonder how long Rebecca can survive the emotional roller-coaster ride she’s on with her psyche. She spends a lot of time convincing herself she’s fine, but we know she’s not.

Her depression caused her to drink (at work) and self-medicate to numb her pain.  The good thing is that in the back of her mind, Rebecca knows she needs help. And the back of her mind moves to the front in the form of Dr. Phil hallucinations.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend used Dr. Phil as the voice of the viewer. It’s true, when he told Rebecca, “Don’t take a pill off the floor”, I’m sure a majority of viewers were yelling the same at their television screens.

What I like about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is that we care about the characters’ happiness and well-being. Josh and Valencia could be the stereotypical jock and pretty girl, but as portrayed by Vincent Rodriguez III and Gabrielle Ruiz, they transcend that. Josh is sweet but unsure and Valencia is a woman who has invested so much of her life on a relationship that she is determined to make it work.

There are no villains in this story, just a group of people working through life issues.

With The CW giving Crazy-Ex Girlfriend an order of additional episodes, viewers will be given the chance to see things unfold in the lives of these characters.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
