Teen Wolf’s Cody Christian at New York Comic Con

On Saturday morning of New York Comic Con 2015, the excitement was running high as the most popular day of the weekend was just beginning. With the Javits Center packed to the point where walking 10 feet could mean 10 minutes, it was easy to get lost in the madness. I pushed my way through the crowds and nervously made my way to my first set of interviews of the day: the cast of the MTV’s Teen Wolf. I have watched Teen Wolf ever since the first episode, so needless to say I had plenty of questions that I needed answered. I knew that Jeff Davis, Dylan Sprayberry, and Tyler Posey would all be doing press, but the main person that I wanted to talk to was new cast member Cody Christian. Cody Christian plays Theo, a manipulative chimera that was the center of all of the drama during the first half of season 5. One of the most interesting storylines on the show thus far, there is a lot that is still unknown about his character. I made it my mission to see what information that I could get out of him about where we find his character in the season 5B.

I sat anxiously waiting in the press room until finally, Cody sleepily enters the room with a venti iced coffee from Starbucks in his hands and heads straight towards our table. Like a true gentleman, he took the time to introduce himself to all of the journalists and asked how our day had been so far. Even though I was slightly thrown off by how casual the situation was, I tried to engage as much as possible in the small talk while simultaneously trying to gather my questions in order of importance so that just in case we ran out of time, I would at least get answers to my most burning questions.

Of course my first question was about what every fangirl would ask one of their favorite actors if they got the chance – his hair. For those who don’t know, Cody died his hair around the time of the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year, so I wanted to know if the darker shade of his hair was a reflection of a darker second half of the season. He laughed and said with a smile, “I could give you this big long explanation on how it is a metaphor and relates to the show, but no.” He had highlights that needed to be touched up and decided in the end to go with a darker shade. Even though he was wearing a beanie throughout the press day, I can tell you with absolute certainty that Theo is back and looking better than ever.

In the last few minutes of the finale, Theo became the leader of a pack of zombie chimeras. Although he couldn’t give too much away to maintain the level of secrecy that has been surrounding this upcoming season, he did say that his pack would need to work together with Scott’s pack in order to defeat “The Beast.” Even though this creature is still in development, it’s clear that it will be a major issue for the gang in Beacon Hills. Of course if the pack is going to work together to bring down this monster, they will need to utilize many resources and play on each other’s strengths, but most importantly, they need a squad name. Cody would love for it to be “Legion of Doom” after the infamous group of supervillans in the DC Comics. I can totally see Theo as a Lex Luthor type character, especially since Theo lacks true werewolf status in the same way that Lex lacks superpowers.

As my time with Cody came to a close, his final comments on Theo really set the tone for the character in 5B. “Theo’s a wildcard, you never know what you are going to get with that kid. He does what he has to do to get what he wants and there’s definitely no limits.” I can only take this to mean more fake crying, evil smirks, and all around phenomenal acting from Cody in the second half of the season. In the few minutes that I had to talk to him, I could really tell that he is extremely dedicated not just to the show, but also to acting in general. I can’t wait to see how he evolves as an actor and I know for certain we will be seeing more of him in the future.

You can catch Season 5B of Teen Wolf on a new night starting Tuesday, January 5th at 9/8c on MTV.
