Exclusive Interview with The Final Girls’ Chloe Bridges

Talk Nerdy With Us had the pleasure of chatting with actress Chloe Bridges. Chloe is best known for portraying Donna LaDonna on The CW’s The Carrie Diaries. Currently Chloe can be seen on MTV’s Faking It and the newly released indie-horror flick The Final Girls. 

Tell us a little bit about The Final Girls and your role in it.

It’s a really fun movie because it kind of takes you through all the feelings. You think it’s going to be a horror movie and it’s going to be scary, but it’s actually just a comedy that’s based on horror. It’s really funny. We have a really, really funny cast and it’s really heartfelt as well. I’m not going to lie, I totally cried at the end. There’s some mother-daughter stuff between Malin and Taissa that totally made me cry. It definitely takes you through all the feelings.

Your character comes in as the final girl, right? 

Yeah. My character is in the movie within the movie. I know that can be confusing. She’s the final girl of that movie. It’s like an eighties movie that these present day characters fall into, and my character is the final girl of that movie. She’s there to kill the bad guy.

Spoiler alert, does she die in her car? Is that your first scene?

Yes, spoiler alert. (Laughs). She does end up dying before she gets to kill the bad guy, so then all the other characters are like, “Oh, great. Now we’re screwed. The girl who was supposed to kill the bad guy is now dead. What are we going to do now?”

How many days were you actually on set filming?

I was there about a week.

The Final Girls is unique and combines comedy and horror. Do you have a preference between comedy or horror? Do you like the combination? What kind of movies do you like?

Yeah, I guess I like the combination. I hadn’t really seen anything with a combination until Final Girls and then I recently started watching Scream Queens. I guess I’m now all about the combination, but prior to this, totally just comedy is what I prefer. It’s funny, the reason I got this role is because I did a horror movie with the producers two years ago. That’s kind of how I got it. They called me and they were like, “Hey, we have this little part in this other horror, but it’s not a horror movie, it’s like a comedy. Would you be interested?” I was like, “Yeah, that sounds awesome.” I did a horror movie and it led to this, but generally speaking I prefer comedy.

Were there any horror stories from the set? Did anything scary happen while you guys were filming?

No. It was a pretty tame set. No life or death experiences. Even the scene where I die, I pretty much just got in a car that didn’t actually move much so it wasn’t that scary. (Laughs). The explosion was cool to watch from a distance.

It’s really also a very comedic cast. What was the off-set banter like?

It was maybe the most fun week I’ve ever had. I know I was only there for a short period of time, but they are such a fun group of people. Everyone’s hilarious. We were in Louisiana so everyone was down to have a good time. We found this random little dive bar that was actually in somebody’s living room in the middle of nowhere. It was an insane place, and we had so much fun there. It was great. We had a great time.

It’s out today! Do you have a favorite scene that you’re most excited for people to see? Is it your dying scene? (Laughs). 

Obviously it’s my scene. Please tune in to my awesome scene. (Laughs). No, I’m just kidding. Probably just stuff at the end. It has a really surprising ending in my opinion. It gets really sweet at the end. I don’t want to give anything away, but that’s my favorite part.

You are also currently recurring on Faking It. Zita has a very cool friendship on the show, but are there any other characters you would like to interact with that you haven’t had the chance to yet?

Yes. I was actually just talking about that, because I’m like, “All of my scenes have been with Greg.” I love Greg and Greg is how I was cast on the show, because we are old friends from back when we were both on the Disney Channel at the same time. Katie is also a friend of mine. I’d love to have some more scenes with her. The rest of the cast are all a really nice group of people. I want my character to be doing other things. I want her to get in the way of other people’s lives and love lives so that I can have more fun scenes with other people too. Basically, I just want to cause as much trouble as I possibly can. (Laughs).

That’s honestly the thing that’s special about Zita. On a series where most of the characters are keeping secrets due to insecurities, Zita brings something new to the group as someone who’s refreshingly honest and confident. Will we get to learn more about her and/or see her dispense more witty advice as the season goes on?

I hope so. I haven’t seen any scripts for the next season, season three, I guess it is? It starts up pretty soon. I think at the beginning of November we start filming. I’m hoping that Zita gets to do more fun stuff and we get to learn more about her. I do love, like you said, that she definitely tells everyone when they’re being dumb, and when they need to make better decisions and kind of tells it how it is, even though she’s not exempt from making bad decisions herself.

I totally Twitter stalked and saw that you just started following Jordan Ross who was doing all the unauthorized plays. Are you going to be doing one? Is that what’s happening this year?

No. That wasn’t like a secret sign that I’m going to be in one. (Laughs). I would definitely not be mad at that one bit though. I think it’s really cool what he’s doing. This sounds like I have a lot of friends, but he’s also kind of an old friend that I know through Katie and other mutual friends. I think it’s so cool that he’s started doing these shows. It’s such a great idea taking beloved classics and making them into musicals.

What would your dream unauthorized movie musical be?

Gosh … Cruel Intentions comes to mind because obviously they did that one, but … I don’t know.

They’re doing a Clueless one now. I don’t know if it’s the same company though or if it’s just at the same venue. I just saw it online and I was like, “Oh my god, that’s awesome.”

I want to be Brittany Murphy’s character from Clueless. How much fun would that be?

Right? Besides Faking It and The Final Girls, what else are you currently working on? 

Nothing at the moment. I’m just excited for Faking It to get started up again. 

What other MTV show would you love to guest star on?

I’d say Awkward, but isn’t it ending soon?

It’s not.

It’s not?  That was like a rumor that happened or something?

They said it was the final season, and now all the actors are saying that it’s not … maybe you can find out for us?

Okay! Yeah, well then Awkward is my answer. Great.

Since our website is Talk Nerdy With Us, what do you nerd out about? What makes you a nerd?

I’m a nerd about the TV shows I watch, but probably the thing I am  nerdiest about is Harry Potter. I’m trying to tone it down, because I’ve recently found that there are some generation gaps in certain things. Everyone my age, for sure, they’ll get my Harry Potter references. Sometimes I’ll be talking to people who are like ten years older than me and they won’t know what I’m talking about and I’m like, “Dang it! That was a great reference and you didn’t understand.” I’m trying to tone it down a little bit, but no, everything pretty much makes me think of Harry Potter. (Laughs).

Is Harry Potter your go-to Halloween costume?

I do have some Slytherin Robes, but I’ve never worn them for Halloween. Wow. Talk about nerdy. I wore them to go see the midnight showing of the last movie.

That is what you are supposed to do. That is the only way to go see a movie at midnight. You have to dress up.
