Can Bones/Sleepy Hollow Crossover Give Viewers What They Want?

A crossover is a tricky entertainment union as two shows become one in holy television matrimony. The goal is to preserve the special qualities of both shows and to gain viewer interest without alienating fans of either show. Picking up new viewers/fans is always a plus.

When it was announced that there would be a Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover, I was excited and intrigued. As a fan of both shows, I was eager to see my favorite characters interacting with each other. But, I wondered how this merging would be pulled off, since both shows have entirely different mythologies.

As Sleepy Hollow’s Abbie Mills is now a FBI agent, there is a logical explanation for her appearance at Bones’  Jeffersonian. She’s consulting with agent Seeley Booth when a headless body is discovered. Abbie brings Ichabod Crane along for the ride and the two work alongside the Jeffersonian’s Dr. Temperance Brennan, Dr. Angela Montenegro and Dr. Jack Hodgins. This way they can piece together clues using the forensic evidence to solve the murder aspect which is Bones’ formula.

But how will the supernatural, tribulations and prophecy of Sleepy Hollow fit into the equation? The headless victim will more than likely be connected to Ichabod Crane. It will be interesting to see how much Abbie shares with Booth about Crane’s origins or their roles as Witnesses.

 

The Bones/Sleepy Hollow Crossover event airs tonight at 8/7c on Fox.
