If any part of your teen years happened to have occurred in the 90s, then it is probable you spent some time watching Beverly Hills, 90210. And if you were anything like I was, you spent a lot of time watching (and rewatching, and discussing, and gushing…). In addition to enjoying the glitz, glamour, and beauty of the Beverly Hills-based plotlines, part of the experience was staying on top of all the behind the scenes drama in the lives of the young and Beatles-level-popular cast members.

In the days before the internet and social media, a lot remained unknown. Rumors swirled, but it was difficult to know exactly what to believe. Enter The Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 Story. What really went down on set in Van Nuys? What led to Shannen Doherty leaving the show after season 4? Who made out with whom and when? Lifetime’s new movie addresses all of these questions and also takes a look at how a show about teenagers and their problems became a hit at a time when shows about teens were unheard of.

Perhaps most remarkable is the uncanny resemblance several of the movie’s stars have to their real-life counterparts. The eeriness goes deeper than just physical looks; the actors did a tremendous job of embodying the people they were playing, most notably Abbie Cobb’s on-point portrayal of Jennie Garth and Samantha Munro’s Shannen Doherty.
