Hannibal: Cancelled

It’s official, my heart is broken; Hannibal has been canceled by NBC. In a statement put out by NBC earlier they said that after it’s third season (which is airing now) the series will conclude.

In their statement, NBC said, “we have been tremendously proud of Hannibal over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television — broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made Hannibal an incredible experience for audiences around the world”.

Bryan Fuller, Hannibal show runner, is grateful for the opportunity and states “Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer…but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.

It’s good that everything is seeming to end on a good note and that there is no bad blood between the network and the creators, but this has come as a huge shock to the fans.

It has already been rumored that Hannibal executive producer Martha De Laurentiis is looking into other means of distribution for the show, meaning that we may get our favorite cannibal back sooner than we think, just not on NBC.

Fans like myself fell in love with this show two seasons ago for it’s ability to go where no broadcast TV show seemed to go before. It’s surprise twists and intricate cinematic moments were artistic and genius and unprecedented. I’m saddened at the news, but hoping to see more from Mr. Fuller in the future!
