A pregnant virgin, centuries old vampire family fighting a battle with witches and werewolves, a forensic scientist with super human speed, a crime fighting zombie and brothers fighting angels and demons. Sounds like some interesting summer beach reads? When actually, these are just a sampling of the unique shows available for viewing pleasure on The CW. The network called the ‘Fifth Network’ is the least watched of all the major networks, which is very sad because in my opinion, it has some of the best shows on any network. The hybrid (Sorry Klaus, The Originals) of the former WB (which produced great shows like Gilmore Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and UPN, The CW has struggled since its inception in 2006.
While it may not have the highest rated shows, The CW has loyal fans that not only watch the shows they adore, but will do anything to support them. Case in point, Supernatural. The show often referred to as ‘the one with the two brothers who drive around in a car and fight monsters’ has fans from all over the world. These fans attend numerous conventions just to meet the shows stars. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles recently had a successful campaign entitled Always Keep Fighting, to help those suffering from depression. And in the fall, Supernatural will enter its 11th Season, making it the CW’s longest running show. Not bad for this little network that could.
I’m sure there are a lot of people who would agree, that watching some of the shows on The CW has changed their life…in a good way. The CW…dares to defy.
