In Development: ‘All Hail the Squash Blossom Queen’
It’s no secret that the entertainment industry has done the “Ugly Duckling” story to death. She’s All That, anyone or not to mention the hundreds of Disney teeny-bopper movies that come down the pike on a weekly basis. However, it’s rare to have such a film focus on it from the guy’s point-of-view. Which brings us to a new film currently in the pre-pre-production stage called All Hail the Squash Blossom Queen – written by Chris Fullerton, produced by Kevin Tostado, and directed by Adrian Cervantes. AHTSBQ centers around Bumbershoot, his best friend Hannah, and the object of his affection, Brittany.
Tostado describes the screenplay as a “fun, romantic comedy with a very fresh voice” and a “twist on some of the other classic romantic comedies.”
According to screenwriter Fullerton, “You have three people who are searching for their own identity, struggling against with what they believe they are with what they want to be.” In what is looking like to be smart, romantic comedy All Hail the Squash Blossom Queen hopes to begin filming sometime next year if all the pieces fall into place.
Cameron Monaghan, known for his role as Ian Gallagher in Shameless, is currently attached to play the lead role Bumbershoot. While Bonnie Wright of the Harry Potter movies is in talks play Hannah and in her first American film role, Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez is set to play Brittany.
