HISTORY announced today new casting for season two of its hit drama series VIKINGS, including Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games) as Bjorn, the intelligent and bold warrior son of Ragnar Lothbrok and Linus Roache (Law & Order) as Ecbert, King of Wessex, a man full of strength, knowledge and undisguised ambition.
…
Returning cast includes Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok; Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha; George Blagden as Athelstan; Donal Logue as King Horrik; Jessalyn Gilsig as Siggy; Clive Standen as Rollo; Gustaf Skarsgard as Loki and Alyssa Sutherland as Princess Aslaug, Ragnar’s new love interest.
That’s right–love interest. Looks like Princess Aslaug is sticking around a little more than most fans would have hoped; though it is admittedly difficult for a show like Vikings to cater story-wise to the fans, since the tale of Ragnar Lothbrok has already, to some extent, been set in stone.
Also, it’s become obvious now that season two will be set at least a few years after the last finale. Bjorn, around 13 or 14 last we saw him, is now being played by the 21 year old Alexander. And if a round of Tweets from the wardrobe fitting are any indication;
Athelstan, at least, is going to be looking quite a bit different.
Vikings has been picked up for a 10-episode season 2, and production is starting soon, but so far the only date we have for release is “in 2014.”
Well, it’s better than nothing.
