Averey, a Michigan native, is the most down to earth girl we’ve seen on MTV’s ‘Real World’. She’s not embarrassed to be herself or speak the truth, especially when it comes to difficult topics (sex, abuse and alcoholism). She worked at Hooters where she was approached by MTV and asked to try out for their show. The rest is history! Read our interview with Averey below!
What originally made you want to go on Real World?
“I actually didn’t try out for the show. I was bartending that day and MTV/Bunim-Murray were having auditions. Through out the day casting people would come up for a beer, lunch, or the occasional get away. They kept telling me that I should try out, I kept telling them no. I’m not what you’re looking for. Anyway, at the end of my shift they came up to me and told me that they liked me and gave me a questionnaire. If I changed my mind, I should drop it off to the hotel they were staying in. About an hour later, I was having a beer with one of the regulars and I was just staring at the paper. He looked at me and said “Are you just going to sit there or fill that out? You’ve been handed a golden ticket, you better take it.” And you can figure out what happened after… lol.”
Had you seen any previous episodes of RW?
“Nope. But I’m glad. I walked in with no pre-conception of who the “cameras” wanted me to be. I just walked in thinking “I’m Averey. Judge away”.”
Have you ever been to Portland before? Were you excited when you found out that that’s where your season was filming?
“I’ve never been to Portland before, let alone Oregon. When I found out, I wasn’t jumping with angst, let me tell you, but I was thankful it wasn’t Michigan. I didn’t want to go somewhere where I grew up, ya know! And when I got to Portland, I really liked it. Very eco and dog friendly. I thought it fit us perfectly. We are weird; but Portland takes the cake.”
What were some of your first impressions of your roommates? Was Johnny the first guy you were most attracted to?
“I thought everyone was pretty good-looking. I mean let’s be honest, we aren’t ugly. Johnny at first, I thought looked like stereo-typical looking Boston guy. Irish, Catholic, thick accent (I couldn’t understand him at first!), liked to drink. That’s your Boston guy for you!”
You brought Daisy with you. Was that your decision or MTVs? How long have you had her? Where you surprised by your roommates reactions to her?
“With Daisy, it was more of a mutual agreement. I didn’t know what to do with her when I left, and I’m not just leaving her for three months.. far too long. So MTV let me. I got Daisy from The Maricopa Humane Society October 2011. Best day ever. I was nervous if anyone would like her at first. She’s afraid of people somewhat, but she loved them just as much as they loved her. Very thankful it worked out!”
Besides Johnny who are you closest to in the house now?
“I would have to say that I talk to Jordan the most outside of the show, maybe the occasional text From Bird or Joi.”
What’s been your favorite thing about being on RW? Has your life changed at all?
“My favorite thing about being on The RW are three things. 1.I got to do something most people dream of. 2. We all will be forever young. When I’m 65, I can show my grandkids how much of an idiot I was when I was their age. and Three. I met Johnny.”
Have you met other cast members from seasons past?
“I’ve only met two. Coral and Mike the miz. Only because they hosted some RW related events. Other than that, the only other person is Kenny (Mr. Beautiful) from the challenges but, I guess he doesn’t really count. (He was never on the RW).”

Tweet you’ve gotten since RW’s aired?
“Not a tweet, a message saying how they could relate with some of my issues. ie. I’m not in school, family stuff, personal growth …. among other things. It just made me happy to know that people DO relate with me and it helps them become better thems. lol. Not to mention, it let’s people know it’s okay not to be normal. Be happy. And screw the people who hold you back from that.”
