Fiction2Film in Review: May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

Fiction2Film is not only a Hunger Games convention. It’s a place where fans of all ages, shapes, and colors can come together and appreciate the movie and books as one Hunger Games family. The best part of this convention was that the experience was shared by some of the cast of the Hunger Games itself.Whether you came and want to reminisce, or you could not make the trip yourself, I have listed some of the highlights for you below.

The Costume Competition

Everything is more exciting when people  dress up. There is just something special about listening to Willow Shields talking about being in a room full of Katniss’s and Tributes. When the costume contest began, the stage was completely full of eager participants trying to show off the costume they had  worked so hard on. Each one was different, and was a great expression of the character. Win lose or draw, all the contestants had a blast!

The Trivia Contest and Auction

If you know everything there is to know about The Hunger Games, this was a chance to show it off to the world. The best part was, everyone had the chance to participate for free!

After the Trivia contest, was an auction. Here was your chance to grab  autographed photos and more from The Hunger Games cast as well casts from many other shows like ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Supernatural’.

Meet and Greets and Autographs

No convention would be complete without a chance to take a picture or get an autograph from your favorite cast members attending the convention. You were able to meet all of the cast members, who were more than friendly. This part of the convention did come at a small price, but well worth it for big fans!

The Panels

This category is last but certainly not least! In fact, they were the highlight of the whole convention! The convention began with a panel of the Katniss design team (Venia, Flavius and Octavia), who shared their experience and made you feel like you were there helping Katniss get ready for the games.

The second panel of the convention was with Willow Shields, who played Primrose in The Hunger Games. She has a twin sister and they audition for many of the same roles. She auditioned while she was reading The Hunger Games, and officially got the role at Gary Ross’s house. Her favorite scene in the book and movies is the Caesar interviews. Ours too!

The panel with Dayo Okeniyi, who played Thresh in The Hunger Games was delightfully hilarious. He made me want to re-watch the movie and re-read all the books. He was born in Nigeria and moved to Indiana for high school. He moved to LA after college and shortly after landed the role of Thresh. Besides talking about the prank wars that were done between cast members behind the scenes he shared a few fun facts about filming the movie. My favorite fun fact was that in the movie he says “for Rue”, but when they were filing he actually said “for her” an they changed the audio later. So his mouth says “for her” but the voice says “for Rue”.

The last panel of the convention consisted of the lively duo Jackie Emerson and Amandla Stenberg. They are the force behind the prank wars that happened on set. Jackie talked about having come up with a name for Foxface, which Stanley Tucci actually briefly says out loud during the movie. Amandla shared that at her final audition, she showed up to Gary Ross’s house covered in blood, dressed up like her character. Needless to say, she was not allowed to sit on any of his fancy furniture.
