William Beckett: 'Walk the Talk' EP Review
William Beckett’s new EP: Walk the Talk was released April 17, 2012.
This EP strays away from his older The Academy Is… material. This album is more unique then anything he’s done before.
The four songs on this EP; Compromising Me, Girl, You Shoulda Been a Drummer, Oh, Love!, and You Never Give Up each have completely contrasting sounds, but somehow they all come together so well.
Compromising Me has this pop-indie feel with a sound more like the newer Downtown Fiction (not saying William and Cameron’s voices are similar, ‘cause they’re not, like at all. BUT the feel is almost the same).
Girl, You Shoulda Been a Drummer then changes to a pop feel that kind of sounds similar to Undercover by Allstar Weekend. — There’s also this part that sounds like the theme song to Friends at one point? Just me? That’s totally not a bad thing, the opposite actually, it just reminded me how great of a show that was 🙂
Oh, Love! starts with that classic rocker beat that everybody loves. It’s just so enticing and the rest of the song definitely does not disappoint. There’s these chords in the background that are just so intriguing. It’s hard to explain, but once you give this a listen you’ll totally understand what I’m saying.
You Never Give Up is the ballad of the album. This song contains really sensitive lyrics and help shows off William’s higher range. The instruments sound unique and calming. This is definitely a song to put in your “relaxation” playlist or even a “when I’m down” one because the lyrics are a great pick-me-up for any bad mood.
This album is so different, but that’s what makes it so interesting. The way that William can put such distinctly c songs into one EP, but make it blend so well is just truly impressive. Not to mention, the vocals in all of these songs are filled with pure talent as well as ‘bolder’ lyrics that people will relate to.
If I were you, I would pick up this EP now, like right now. If you are a fan of his old music or any of the similarities stated above, you will NOT be disappointed.
