Recap of the 'Best Friends Forever' Episode 1.1 "Pilot"

There are not too many shows that have a pilot that get me hooked, like this show has. I love comedy shows, but for me, they are easier to watch as a full seasons than episode by episode. A couple days ago I was browsing through Hulu Plus and came across a show called ‘Best Friends Forever’. Since I was with my best friend at the time, I thought I would give the show a chance, and now I cannot wait for the next episode!

Best Friends Jessica and Lennon

Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, the two stars of the show, are best friends living at two different ends of the country. Not being able to hang out in person, they video chat about Jessica’s divorce, and decide she needs to move in with Lennon for the time being. Being inseparable and having crazy traditions just like best friends do, they fall back into their old traditions. They watch Steal Magnolias, and have late night chat sessions and make up for lost time.

Joe (Luka Jones), Lennon’s live-in boyfriend gets the short end of the stick with this new living arrangement. He feels like a stranger in his own home. He has to give up his office, and his lazy Sunday tradition is all out of wack!

Being back in the town she grew up in, Jessica runs into some old friends, including a man name Rav, who she may or may not still have feelings for.

Lazy Sunday

Things get even more twisted when Jessica finds a ring in Joe’s office. Earlier in the episode Joe had told Jessica that this lazy Sunday is very important for him, so Jessica automatically assumes that Joe is proposing to Lennon! Unsure what she thinks about Joe, Jessica tries to make lazy Sunday her own. She, and Lennon go out and change the menu for lazy Sunday. They rearrange the furniture and turn the day into their own when it’s supposed to be Joe’s day.

Sunday finally roles around, and its time for Jeff’s big announcement. Everything is all set up for Joe to pop the big question, but instead of asking Lennon to marry him, he asks her to go to Scotland with her.

I love this show for so many reasons. Jessica and Lennon play themselves, and are even best friends in real life. They co-wrote the show, and have admitted that since they play themselves they have the liberty to improvise scenes so they flow naturally. My favorite part of the show though, is that it reminds me so much of my own relationship with my best friend. Their fights don’t last longer than ten minutes, they laugh together, they cry together, and have tons of inside jokes.

If I was to compare this show to any other show it would be FRIENDS. Jessica and Lennon’s relationship, is much like Monica’s and Rachel’s. They always and forever have each other’s best interest at heart, even it it means they have to kick each other in the butt sometimes to make it there.

Make Sure to watch Best Friends Forever April 11th on NBC at 8:30/7:30c
