Band of the Month – April 2012: The All-American Rejects
The All-American Rejects are a punk-pop band from Oklahoma. The band was originally started by Tyson Ritter, the lead singer and bassist, and Nick Wheeler, lead guitarist and backup vocalist, who became good friends in high school because of their love for music. Needing just a few more musicians to start a band they quickly found Mike Kennerty rhythm guitarist, the lead guitarist and Chris Gaylor who became the drummer. They launched their first album in spring of 2000, and an Ep in 2001. Things took off quickly for them after that, and they went on a midwest tour where they got attention from a record company called Doghouse Records. Soon after signing with the record company, they produced their self-titled album: The All-American Rejects, and things really took off from there! Since then they have produced three more cds: Move Along, When the World Comes Down and Kids in the Street which was just released on March 26. In addition to their hit albums, their success’s include: selling over 10 million albums world wide, being ranked #73 on the”Hot 100 Artists of the 2000s,” and were on Billboard’s 200 hot artists of the decade list.
Because of the All-American Rejects continuous success, they have become our band of the month, for our very first month! I never thought the ‘Rejects could top their first self titled album, but they have again and again. They continuously are putting out albums that are always just as good as the previous one! Their new album, “Kids in the Street” has shown how much the band has grown and matured while staying intone to the sound we all know and love. In addition,they have and will always be one of my favorite bands. If you have a chance, I would definitely recommend seeing them in concert! They put on one of the best shows I’ve seen, which is saying a lot because I go to a ton of concerts! Tyson’s outgoing and crazy personality comes out in every show and since they’re on tour now, you should defiantly go check them out!
