Album Review: IWXO EP – Nathan Darmody
The point of an album review is to be honest no matter how much you love the artist. That being said, former Allstar Weekend lead guitarist, Nathan Darmody just released his very first EP! Nervous and scared for what kind of music Nathan would be producing now, I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t sure he was going to play the same genre of music as Allstar Weekend, but I wanted to still be able to listen and support his music career. I’d define his EP genre as: acoustic songwriting.
The lyrics on his EP are fun and catchy. The acoustic sounds of the music seems to fit Nathan’s voice quite well. My favorite songs on the album are “Boat for Shore” and “Be Our Generation”. The lower range of Nathan’s voice works quite well for him. He stays in tune, it’s a great sound, and very catchy! However, his weakness is his solo voice in the upper register. It just doesn’t work for me. He sounds too pitchy in the upper register.
It’s his first EP and his first time going solo, so I’m not giving up. Everything is almost there, he just needs to tweak it a little bit more for it to be perfect. I hope he musically explores so much more territory in his next EP. He has the heart and the talent to make it big on his own, so I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
