Jason Momoa has been on the rise as the next action star for quite some time now. His roles have been nothing short of radiant and compelling. In honor of his visit to Atlanta with the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, I’ve made this list of his Top Five Badass Roles:
Ronon Dex of Stargate Atlantis.
Jason played Ronon Dex, a Runner, who was implanted with a tracking device. For seven years Ronon evaded the Wraith, a vampiric alien species. Ronon has excellent stamina and is an impressive fighter. This was first proven in Ronon’s first appearance on Stargate Atlantis. In episode 3 of season 2, “Runner,” Ronon outsmarted and outfought the entire Stargate team. He also bested a foe after withstanding major surgery to his spine.
Later, in season 4 episode 17 entitled “Midway,” Ronon entered a sparring match that could only be ended by the interruption of a commanding officer. Ronon wouldn’t yield after hours of fighting. This episode features an all out assault of Ronon, and fellow badass Teal’c, against the invading forces of the Wraith.
Conan in Conan the Barbarian.
Jason brings the pain as Conan in the remake of the 1982 movie of the same name. This updated version is more closely related to the comics giving fans more sex and blood (not necessarily in that order).
Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.
There are very few people in the world who don’t know of Jason’s portrayal of the unstoppable Stallion Khal Drogo. No one will forget this scene where Khal Drogo gives Viserys Targaryen his golden crown. I still get shivers.
Khal Drogo (so good I had to do it twice) in Game of Thrones.
There are so many badass moments from Momoa’s portrayal of Khal Drogo that it took me days just to narrow the list down. I couldn’t leave out the moment he faced down Mago, his own warrior. During the fight Drogo ridicules Mago. He expounds that Mago will not have a proper funeral and will be seen as a warning to all those who opposes the Khal. Drogo does this without the use of his weapons and with a suave savagery that Game of Thrones fans have come to enjoy.
Arthur Curry/Aquaman in Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Aquaman and Justice League movies.
Jason Momoa as Aquaman has given fans around the world a reason to cheer for the underrated comic character. Momoa’s portrayal is intense and powerful, everything you’d expect from the King of Atlantis and Ruler of the Seven Seas. Just check out the teaser trailer for the Justice League movie coming out:

Plus he likes beer and throwing tomahawks.
