The 3rd Annual NYC Web Fest Releases 2016 Nominees
Come November 10th, the 3rd annual NYC Web Fest will showcase new and upcoming web series from across the globe. Named one of the 6 Great New Media Festivals by Backstage, it’s a weekend highlighting the best of the best in the web series world, with screenings, panels, and awards. It’ll all take place at the PIT Loft in Manhattan and will run November 10th-12th. Ninety-six series will go against one another, hoping to be the best in their category.
Founded by Lauren Atkins in 2014, she wanted to showcase web series in the artistic and expressive city of New York. She notes, “Our goal is to make this festival the premier home for digital producers on an international level. An organic space where creators can showcase their talent, network with other artists, and learn from industry insiders.”
Its award nominees have just been released, with The Other Love Story seeing six nominations. This is India’s first same-sex web series and follows two female friends in the 1990s while painting the picture of them falling in love. Merce, a musical comedy about an HIV positive man, leads with six nominations as well.
NYCWF has an “Audience Choice Award” this year, where the audience can vote for their favorite. Stareable will host this competition and voting runs until November 1st. The winner of the “I Love NY Award” will be entered into Big Vision Empty Wallet’s Creators Program, where 10-15 creators will get mentorship from Alex Cirillo and Dani Faith Leonard. Among those categories, there are plenty others where web series can prove their worth.
