There’s been quite a bit of a buzz surrounding Marvel’s Spider-man and its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After we fell in love with the Tobey Maguire (I’m choosing to ignore the existence of the third film), Andrew Garfield attempted to win audiences over with his Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man. While they’re both good, both have significant flaws and Marvel admitted they didn’t get it quite right.
A few months ago, newcomer Tom Holland swung onto our screens as our new Spider-Man with his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. Although a movie featuring his Spider-Man had already been announced, his appearance in Captain America proved that Spider-Man Homecoming (to premiere in 2017) will definitely kick ass.
With a fresh-faced, but familiar cast, featuring Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, and even Hannibal Buress, it’s easily one of the most anticipated movies.
There was a lot of speculation revolving around what character Zendaya would play, but reports today stated that she will be portraying Peter’s infamous love interest Mary Jane Watson. I know fanboys across the globe are getting their hearts shattered at the news that someone who looks nothing like the “classic” comic book love interest has been cast, but I am thrilled as are many others as representation for young girls outside of that demographic is met.
We should have seen this news coming, as Zendaya and Tom seem to be super close hanging out on and off set. If you need further proof that they’ll light up the screen together, check out this super cute video Choreographer Deja Carter posted.
