“I Can’t Make You Love Me” is one of blues/rock/country icon Bonnie Raitt’s most famous ballads. Recorded in 1991, with Bruce Hornsby accompanying Raitt on piano, the song was written by Mike Reid and Allan Shamblin. The song appeared on Raitt’s eleventh studio album Luck of the Draw. Released as the album’s third single, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” became one of Raitt’s most successful singles, reaching the top-twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the top-ten on the Adult Contemporary chart.
In August 2000, Mojo magazine voted “I Can’t Make You Love Me” the eighth best track on The 100 Greatest Songs of All Time list. The song is ranked at number 339 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
The song has been recorded by a variety of performers almost continuously since the song’s release. Can you decide who covers it best?
