Where Are They Now: The “Tru Calling” Edition

tru-callingIn the television industry, it can frequently be very difficult for new shows coming out of the gate to assert themselves on the landscape. Sadly, many series, regardless of their creative premises, are cut short after only a few seasons. Jon Hardman Feldman’s Tru Calling is one such series. Premiering in 2003, the show followed the adventures of Tru Davies, a twenty-two-year-old medical student who discovers that she has the ability to relive days in order to prevent people from dying. As a result, she finds herself leading a double life, struggling to juggle her personal responsibilities with her newfound power.

Starring Eliza Dushku, Matt Bomer, Zach Galfinakis, A.J. Cook and Jason Priestly, the show seemed poised to become the next big sci-fi hit. Nevertheless, it lasted for only one and a half seasons, with the last episode airing on January 21, 2008, almost three years after the rest of season two. For that reason, this show has often been described by those that remember it as “the one that got away”—the one that could still be great if it found its way into the hands of an ambitious new showrunner.

With any luck, this is something that could happen in the future, especially given the recent wave of remakes and reprisals ordered by Netflix, Hulu and several television networks. However, until that occurs, let’s take some time to explore what the show’s stellar cast is up to now!
