Talk Nerdy With Us Weekly Superlatives (March 27th-April 2nd)

HERE’S THIS WEEK’S
TALK NERDY WITH US WEEKLY TV SUPERLATIVE AWARDS:

Best One-Liner: Supergirl

“All four of you standing there doing nothing, you look like the attractive yet non-threatening, racially diverse cast of a CW show.” – Cat Grant, addressing Kara, James, Winn, and Barry

spg118_0897

Honorable Mentions: Arrow (“She’s not Voldermort.” – Oliver), Broad City (“Jesus, they stink so much more than the pictures, God…like pepperoni.” – Ilana Wexler)

Most Badass Character: The 100

Octavia Blake

2

It doesn’t get much more badass than Octavia Blake.  In the most recent episode of The 100, Octavia will stop at nothing to save Kane, Sinclair, and Lincoln, all of whom are set to be executed.  She tranquilizes her brother, chains him up in a cave, and then proceeds to sneak back into Arkadia to help the three prisoners escape.  And when she wakes up after having been tranquilized herself and realizes that Lincoln has surrendered, she watches as he is executed.  Does she cry?  No.  She holds in her emotions and stands strong.  Ge smak daun, gyon op nodotaim.  Get knocked down, get back up; that is exactly what Octavia is doing.

Most Lovable Character: Shadowhunters

Simon Lewis

ALBERTO ROSENDE, KATHERINE MCNAMARA

Simon was excited this week after learning he still stood a chance with his best friend and forever love Clary, and that translated into happiness and unwavering support for Alec and Magnus when they made their epic public declaration of love. Not only was he stoked for them and their happiness, but he proudly proclaimed his excitement by doing an adorable and hilarious play-by-play of their likeness to Ben and Elaine from The Graduate. I swear this guy gets more lovable with each passing week. (Contributed by Sam Pedley)

Biggest Jerk: The Walking Dead

Dwight

the-walking-dead-episode-615-dwight-amelio-935

Fans have hated Dwight since we first met him in part A of this season. First, he takes Daryl’s bike and crossbow after he had saved his life. When we see him again he has just shot Denise. And now he’s captured Glenn and Michonne, setting a trap for Rosita and Daryl. And in the last seconds of this week’s episode *spoiler* he shoots Daryl. (Contributed by Allie Warner)

Bad Guy/Girl of the Week: The People Vs OJ

Mark Fuhrman

american-crime-story-mark-fuhrman-105

The case against OJ Simpson is unraveling quickly due to the violent and obscene statements said by the Prosecution’s star witness, Mark Furman. In this week’s episode, 13 tapes were released to the court in which Mark Furman, a detective on the OJ case, casually used the n-word several hundred times and bragged about beating up innocent black men. Not only were these horrible statements to make, but it confirmed the hatred the police force had against black men.

Honorable Mention: The 100 (Pike)

Shadiest Character:  Broad City

Hot French Guy

bc307_0356

What could be better than renting your apartment out for $700 to someone on B&B-NYC and spending the night camping out on your roof? Almost anything! Abby rented her apartment out to a “Hot French Guy” who showed a bit of romantic interest in her. Not being able to sleep in a tent on a roof in the middle of NYC, Abby went out to a club and spent the whole time texting/flirting with the Hot French Guy. She decides to take this a few steps further, and goes back to her apartment to spend the rest of the night with the fella, only to find out that he has taken all of her stuff!

Honorable Mention: Grey’s Anatomy (Dr. Catherine Avery)

Best Kiss: Shadowhunters

Magnus and Alec

1

After spending the episode mentally preparing to force himself through his own wedding, militant do-gooder Alec Lightwood realized the heart he’d been following had changed. He called it quits at the last possible moment, stepped down from the altar, tugged Magnus in by the lapels and kissed him in front of his wedding guests. Despite the grown ups being awww-kward, their friends were over the moon for the pair as they finally took their romance to the next level. The chemistry was great, the passion was intense, and fangirls across the internet screamed in delight. Now that’s how you do a wedding! (Sam Pedley)

Honorable Mentions: Supergirl (Kara and Jimmy Olsen), Chicago PD (Erin Lindsay and Jay Halstead)

Best Dressed: Shadowhunters

Simon Lewis

2

Simon and Raphael are such pals now that Simon borrowed one of his suits to attend Alec and Lydia’s wedding, and boy did it look good. His textured midnight blue suit did not go unnoticed by Clary, who gave him the once over and a fairly surprised but impressed compliment. Completely earned. Embracing his stylish vampire self is doing him wonders. (Contributed by Sam Pedley)

Honorable Mention: Lucifer (Lucifer)

Most Swoon-Worthy Scene: Once Upon A Time

Killian Jones Fights For His Future

Screen Shot 2016-04-01 at 9.45.20 PM

After an emotional goodbye to his brother Liam, Killian finally realizes that he no longer has to live in his older brother’s shadow and starts to believe that he is worth being saved from the Underworld. Upon this realization, he confronts Emma telling her that he is ready and willing to fight for the future that they have planned on, sealing his promise with a passion-filled kiss. Biggest OTP Moment: Elementary

Sherlock and Fiona

2_120

Fiona was going to break up with Sherlock because she thought he was treating her differently since she is neuro-atypical.  Later Sherlock confronts her and admits he was treating her different, not because of her condition, but because of his. He tells her he has only had one girlfriend before her (if you can consider a criminal mastermind a girlfriend) and that he is behind her, in terms of relationships.  Fiona then gets up and goes to sit on Sherlock’s lap and says, “We can have sex now.” (Contributed by Arlene Allen)

Most Emotional Scene: iZombie

Liv and Drake’s Mom

izom216_2972

With Drake missing now for nearly a week, Liv loses her cool and goes to see Drake’s mom.  His mom pulls out a photo album full of young Drake and tearfully shows it to Liv, who is beginning to see the good person Drake really is, especially after finding out Drake was with the police.  Now she is good and worried about Drake. Honorable Mentions: iZombie (Ravi finding out Major’s secret), Supernatural (Dean dying to save his dead brother Sam who wasn’t so dead after all)

Most Heartbreaking Moment: Gotham

Jim Gordon

After rescuing the sweet and timid Puck and taking him on his jail break, Puck dies in the escape vehicle as a result of the beating he took on Jim’s behalf. (Contributed by Arlene Allen)

Most Heartfelt Reunion: Shadowhunters

Jace and Alec

d2a80f1c-deb7-44a4-bf91-317ef3485a16

Jace and Alec went from brothers-at-war to beloved brothers-in-arms once again when Isabelle used the excuse of Alec’s bachelor party to trick the two into a much overdue bro-talk. After apologies and sharing and advice, Alec asked Jace to be the one to give him away at his wedding and once it was decided that getting married was what Alec wanted, Jace agreed with a promise to always be there for him. Awww. (Contributed by Sam Pedley)

Most Heartwarming Moment: Shadowhunters

Alec and Lydia

3

Alec’s sudden case of cold feet on the altar could have provoked any number of reactions from his intended bride, but when it became clear that Alec’s head and heart wasn’t in it, Lydia didn’t need an explanation. She knew what he was struggling with and assured him that not only would she be okay, but that he deserved to be happy. Lydia was an absolute queen in that moment, and Alec clearly adored her for it. I’m almost bummed that they didn’t get married. They would have made a great power couple. (Contributed by Sam Pedley)

Funniest Scene: Life in Pieces

Tyler goes to prom

107885_d0448b

It’s prom night and that means torture for poor Tyler.  Mom shoves a handful of condoms into his pants pocket, grandma offers a demonstration of one on a banana and grandpa wants to show him how to remove a girl’s bra…using puppets. Awk-ward! (Contributed by Terri Clark)

Best Buddy Moment: Supergirl

Supergirl/The Flash

spg118_2381

Pretty much every interaction between Kara and Barry was a gift, but the best moment for me was when Barry mentioned that he has to consume 10,000 calories a day. Kara asks him if he likes doughnuts, and Barry replies “Who doesn’t like doughnuts?” (Contributed by Allie Warner)

Best Action Scene: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Mack & Ruben vs The Watchdogs

Screen Shot 2016-04-01 at 9.42.20 PM

When the Watchdogs decide to go after Mack, thinking he was a Meta Human, Mack decides to make a stand. He ends up taking down a couple of guys, getting Ruben and gun, and the two of them fight off several more in the kitchen. Putting the shotgun/cleaver contraption to use. Best Plot-twist: Legends of Tomorrow

Mick

The crew discovers that Mick has been Chronos all along. (Contributed by Arlene Allen)

Weirdest Moment: The Magicians

Quentin, Elliott and Margo all in bed together

Screen Shot 2016-04-01 at 9.31.42 PM

While trying to work battle magic the group seals up their emotions in a little bottle. The only problem is when you get your emotions back, they hit you two or three times stronger than when you first had the feelings.  Penny and Alice stopped doing that and went to practice the battle magic using what natural skills they had, but the trio did not, which led to some trippy, absinthe like moments where Margo, Elliott and Quentin give in to building sexual tension. Quentin awakes in bed with Elliott’s arm around him. And Alice standing in the room.  Uh oh. (Contributed by Arlene Allen)

Cutest Moment: Supergirl

Supergirl and Flash

spg118_0823

This episode was some of the most adorable superhero interactions ever. The cutest moment for me was when Barry zipped out and got ice cream for everyone. In less than 30 seconds.  It was a moment of glee. (Contributed by Arlene Allen)

Most Shocking: Supergirl

Myriad Has Taken Over National City

spg118_3013

When Kara and James finally shared ( in what was a long-awaited) kiss, James appeared to have a blank expression on his face showing absolutely no feeling afterward. Fans and Kara were shocked and unsure what was happening as James walked mindlessly away from her. Then it appeared that every citizen in National City was now put in the exact same state. Turns out Non is finally putting Project Myriad into effect and it involves taking out National City first, then the world. (Contributed by Alexis Navarro)

Most Suspenseful: SupeNAtural

“Red Meat”

Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 3.48.33 PM

Yes, yes, we knew the brothers wouldn’t actually die for keeps, after all they are the Win-chesters, not the Lose-chesters, but “Red Meat” still had us biting our nails. Brutal from beginning to end, the entire episode delivered on suspense, emotion and blood. Plus, that badass and beautiful reaper, Billie, came way too close to claiming Dean with his (gulp!) suicide. (Contributed by Terri Clark)

Most Terrifying Scene: The 100

Lincoln is executed

1

This wasn’t so much terrifying as in jump-out-of-your-seat scary as it is terrifying for the very real human viewers behind ‘The 100’. Over three episodes, the show has killed in the cheapest and most despicable ways, both Lexa and Lincoln–minorities; and has indulged in child massacre. Yet for the lazy and amateur writing on this show, Lincoln’s peace-seeking endeavours, his pacifist ideals and his enduring love for Octavia will not be forgotten. He may not have featured much this season beyond imprisonment, but over three seasons Ricky Whittle has been a hero. Lincoln forged a love story with Octavia; he protected Clarke and Lexa from the sniper; he exacted well-earned revenge on Cage. This scene was just another example of the backwards progression of the show–but Lincoln will remain a hero. (Contributed by Nicola Choi)

Performer of the Week: The Flash

Grant Gustin

NED00D3G2O6NGE_5_b

DC fans got a double dose of Grant Gustin this week as Barry Allen guest starred on Supergirl and The Flash aired as normal. Not only was he on both shows, but we got to see the depth of his talent. On Supergirl, Barry Allen was his usual, happy, loveable self, even while being on the wrong earth. On The Flash, however, Barry was angry, determined to a fault, and definitely not the optimistic guy we are used to seeing. Gustin even had to portray Barry from a year ago and present-day Barry in the same scene. Complemented by the excellent portrayal of the two separate Harrison Wells by Tom Cavanagh, Grant Gustin was nothing short of spectacular this week. (Contributed by Annie Worsman)

  1. I loved most of these! I really like the Weekly Superlatives feature on the website 🙂

I admit (I love Shadowhunters, it’s my favorite show atm) that there seem to be an overload on Shadowhunters on this (and a bit on last weeks too). Of course Shadowhunters is amazing and I love it but if there was a bit more diversity across the TV shows and suggestions that would be great! But that’s all, i really like the weekly superlatives idea and look forward to it 🙂
