Album Review: Lake Street Dive, ‘Side Pony’

If you have never heard of Lake Street Dive, their latest album, Side Pony, is a great way for you to meet. Lake Street Dive is an incredibly fun band with a sound that is a mixture of 60’s pop, jazz, and soul.

The first time I heard Lake Street Dive was at a music festival several years ago and I was an immediate fan. I was standing in a sea of people and within minutes of their set, everyone around me was dancing, singing and audibly discussing how fun they were!  I have followed Lake Street Dive ever since and was pumped when they announced the upcoming release of Side Pony.

Side Pony is Lake Street Dive’s fourth album and is currently streaming on their website for your listening pleasure. The band mates all share in the songwriting duties which allowed this album to be cohesive without being repetitive. The opening song, “Godawful Things”, is the perfect song to kick off the album and showcases lead singer Rachel Price’s rich and soulful voice. The album also does a great job of showing off the bands captivating sound and the fantastic instrumentals of band mates Bridget Kearney, Mike Calabrese, and Mike “McDuck” Olson.

Side Pony is the total embodiment of Lake Street Dive’s sound and lyrical whimsy. The album will officially be released February 19th and is currently available for pre-order.

Must-hear tracks: “Call Off Your Dogs”, “So Long”, “I Don’t Care About You”, and “Close To Me”.
