5 Things You Need to Know About The Shannara Chronicles

The Shannara Chronicles is one of the most exciting television shows coming in 2016. If you haven’t had the chance to read Terry Brooks’ bestselling book series that the show is based on, you have nothing to worry about. The show is incredibly easy to follow and will appeal to fantasy fans everywhere. But before the show premieres, there are a couple of things that you should know.

  1. This is not your typical MTV show.

MTV has done very well with the supernatural in the past with the show Teen Wolf, but Shannara takes the network to another level. The show boasts incredible cast members such as Manu Bennett and John Rhys-Davies, both of which have compared their experience filming the show to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. In fact, many of the crew members from the New Zealand set worked on The Lord of the Rings movies.

  1. #TeamAmberle

From the promos, you might expect the show to be about Wil Ohmsford, the half elf half human played by Austin Butler. Even though he is a huge part of the story, it is ultimately centered around Amberle Elessedil, the elven princess played by Poppy Drayton. She is the perfect balance of sweet and fierce that makes her a level-headed leader as well as a formidable warrior.

  1. The cast is incredibly attractive.

There is no shortage of beautiful people on this show. If you aren’t completely hypnotized by Austin Butler’s dreamy blue eyes, you’ll be floored by Ivana Baquero’s mesmerizing stare. You will definitely have trouble choosing your favorite Elessedil brother, especially since there are three amazing options to choose from.

  1. The Four Lands are aesthetically pleasing.

Filming in New Zealand definitely has its perks. As the trio travels on their journey to save the world, we get a glimpse of the exotic atmosphere that they shot in. Since the series takes place on Earth after its destruction, there is a rustic, yet futuristic vibe.

  1. The premiere is two hours!

The January 5th premiere will feature the first two episodes of the series back to back, then ends on a devastating cliffhanger that will leave you craving more.

The Shannara Chronicles premieres on Tuesday, January 5th at 10/9c on MTV.
