Most people know Karen Gillan from Doctor Who. She portrayed Amy Pond, the Doctor’s feisty, ginger, Scottish companion who kept him in check when he got out of control (which was, and still is, pretty common). Her tenure lasted through 2012 when she sacrificed her time with the Doctor (and her daughter, River) to spend her remaining days with Rory in 1930s New York. She made a brief appearance in the 2013 Christmas special as the Doctor was regenerating. Yes, I absolutely cried.
Since moving on from the TARDIS, Karen has found success on our side of the pond. She was the lead in ABC’s Selfie, a modern adaptation of My Fair Lady. She played Eliza Dooley, a self-obsessed socialite, who gets a makeover by her boss, Henry Higgs (John Cho). Unfortunately ABC pulled the show after a handful of episodes, but Hulu picked up the remaining few so we fans had *some* sort of resolution. I still retain hope that it gets new life (*cough* NETFLIX *cough*) as it was an adorable show
Gillan transitioned to movies in 2013, with romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending and horror film Oculus.
In 2014, Karen once again graced the silver screen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Nebula, one of the bad guys (gals?). Thankfully she will be back in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, which is currently in pre-production.
