6 Reasons You Need To See Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation

I have a confession to make. Until yesterday evening, I had never actually seen any of the movies in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Cue horrified gasps!
Let me just say, in my defense, the first one came out before I even existed. Plus, I was still in diapers when the second one debuted which means by the time Ghost Protocol premiered, I had missed out on so much that I had very little interest. But after months on end of listening to my parents excitement for the fifth installment, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, I decided to tag along and see what all the fuss is about. Which means it’s time to make a second confession; I really, really, really liked it.

Whether you’ve been a fan of Tom Cruise and his spy character for awhile or if, like me, you’re a newcomer to the world of impossible missions, I can assure you that it’s one action flick that you do not want to miss this year. Here are five reasons why you need to get yourself down to your nearest cinema to see Cruise and Co in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

1. Plane and Not So Simple

Tom Cruise is notorious for doing the majority of his own stunts, so you can already guess that Rogue Nation is going to be packed full of daring antics. You’ve probably seen this one in both the posters and the trailers. Ethan (Cruise) and Benji (Simon Pegg) have to stop the shipment of nerve gas that has been loaded onto a plane that is about to take off. Ethan attempts to gain entry to the plane, but there’s one small problem. The door won’t open. Leaving Ethan hanging off the exterior of the plane as it soars in mid-air. What could possibly make this scene more awesome? The fact that it’s the opening sequence.

2. IMF Buddy Banter

There to add the comedic relief in the action fueled film is Ethan’s friend and colleague, Benji Dunn. Simon Pegg is absolutely hilarious in the role and will have you in fits of giggles, at one point slacking from CIA duties to play Halo 5. However, as you can see from the gif, this movie will definitely not be an easy ride for the two of them. Their friendship is tested and it does get tough. Poor Benji, he just wanted a night at the Opera.

3. Rebecca Ferguson

The Swedish actress absolutely steals the show as British operative Isla Faust. In fact, she carries half the film keeping both Ethan and the audience guessing as who’s side she is really on. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation did something very few action films do. They had a leading lady who shares equal screen time with her male counterparts and quite frankly kicks more ass than them. While she is relatively quite unknown, unless like me you were a big fan of The White Queen, I’m sure everyone in Hollywood is now sitting up and paying attention. Ilsa Faust spin off, anyone?

4. That Underwater Scene

As previously mentioned, Rogue Nation is littered with spectacular stunts which has contributed to its success over the years. Each one is more life threatening and as impressive as the last. While the plane scene may have had my heart racing, it was the underwater one that had me on the edge of my seat. Lengthy, but breathtaking, this was one moment that had everyone in the theater speechless.

5. The SINdicate

Sean Harris is sure to send a shiver down your spine in his performance as the villainous leader of the Syndicate, a group of highly skilled operatives who are set on destroying the IMF. These baddies are absolutely ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Although, you can be sure that Ethan will see that they get the justice they deserve in a very big way.

6. Chases in exotic locations

Rogue Nation takes us on a jet-setting trip around the globe as Ethan tries to hunt (pun not intended) down the bad guys. In order to capture these rogue agents, he needs to find them whether they be in Vienna or Morocco. This leads to one of the most thrilling chase scenes featuring a fancy BMW and speeding motorbikes all in the old town of Kasbah.
If you’re just too excited, you can watch a short clip of the exhilarating scene here.
