If you are familiar with writer and creator Aaron Sorkin’s work (Sports Night, The West Wing) then you know that he doesn’t shy away from the hard topics. In fact he uses them in such a way that you are hard pressed not to have changed your views on a particular subject after hearing his viewpoint through the characters he creates. It’s been said that he pushes his personal agendas down the viewers throats, but I’ve always looked at as though through him the characters feel very passionately about these subjects. Whether it be the budget crisis in Season 5 of The West Wing or the double edged sword of ratings on Sports Nights.
In Season 1 of HBO’s The Newsroom we saw the main character Will McAvoy, played by Jeff Daniels, struggle with coming back from a very public breakdown as well as his struggle with keeping to his convictions as as apposed to his vanities. Joining the cast beginning July 14th, 2013 on a recurring basis will be Marcia Gay Harden, Constance Zimmer, Patton Oswalt, and Grace Gummer.
Along with Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom stars Emily Mortimer, John Gallagher Jr, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadowski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, and Sam Waterston.
