The Screen Actors Guild Awards were a Classy Affair

14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations Announcement

On Sunday night, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs), everybody was so composed and perfectly put together. This is always one of the best and most spirited awards shows because the actors are voting for each other. It’s a great way to see what the actors are enjoying and what they think is deserving, rather than what critics or judges liked best. Everybody was jovial and graceful and it was great to see the camaraderie between everyone. Dick Van Dyke received the Lifetime Achievement Award and seemed genuinely thrilled to get the standing ovation that came along with it. Along with hearing his touching story of meeting his wife at the SAGs, he definitely came off as one of the sweetest men in Hollywood.

The televisions awards came with few surprises. 30 Rock picked up for outstanding comedy performances by Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey. Downton Abbey got it’s first nomination and award for Drama Ensemble which was definitely deserving. When Modern Family won for Comedy Ensemble it was great to see Jesse Tyler Ferguson shout out to 30 Rock.

In the movie awards, Lincoln’s Daniel Day-Lewis (Leading Role) and Tommy Lee Jones (Supporting Role) picked up awards, hinting at a growing theme in the award season. Lincoln has been nominated for 12 awards at the Oscars, including those two, and they seem to keep getting these ones. Like in the Golden Globes, Anne Hathaway (Supporting Role) received the statue for Les Misérables and Jennifer Lawrence (Leading Role) got one for Silver Linings Playbook. Hathaway and Lawrence seem to be front runners this year for their categories, as does Daniel Day-Lewis for his.
